Welcome!
Chloe Rosenstock
sociologist
I am a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I am broadly interested in how and why inequality is reproduced and legitimized—especially by individuals and groups that explicitly condemn it. Using qualitative methods — such as interviews and ethnography — my work examines how processes that sustain inequality are justified through cultural claims about identity, morality, and worth.
My master’s thesis explores how a workplace committed to social justice and equity deliberately moves away from traditional hierarchical structures, and how this process reshapes the organization’s internal status and authority dynamics.
My dissertation (in progress) explores how socially progressive, affluent individuals in urban settings navigate their relationships to their neighborhoods and moral identities.
Outside of academia, I am an avid reader of literary fiction, enjoyer of the arts, and intermediate guitar player.
